Stop Violence Against Women

Date: February 10, 2015

StopViolenceAgWomen

Nonviolent Peaceforce in South Sudan participated in a 16 day campaign to Stop Violence Against Women in the town of Rumbek.

Focusing on both home and conflict situations, NP joined with multiple partners from local and international organizations, such as UNICEF, OXFAM, IRC, and UNHCR, and participated in a march to Freedom Square. The attached report tells about the music and dancing and the high turnout from the community.
During speeches given on the last day, NP "focused on the power and influence that women have in their community, both over their own security and the security of the community." The NP in South Sudan team actively seeks out women in local communities to be leaders in unarmed civilian peacekeeping because of this influence.

You can protect civilians who are living in or fleeing violent conflict. Your contribution will transform the world's response to conflict.
