We at Nonviolent Peaceforce strongly condemn the recent drone attack on a humanitarian evacuation vehicle in Kostyantynivka, Donetsk region on November 8. According to reports, a Russian FPV drone struck the armoured vehicle of the Proliska humanitarian group. This car is used to evacuate civilians and deliver aid to those living under constant threat.

“Our vehicles are clearly marked with humanitarian symbols, yet they are still being targeted. The drone operator could see exactly where they were aiming — this was a deliberate attack on a humanitarian mission,” said Oleh Tkachenko, the driver of the vehicle.

Such attacks on humanitarian missions endanger the lives of those who risk everything to save others. Vehicles like this one represent hope and safety for people trapped in frontline areas; they are protected under International Law and must never be targeted.

We are especially saddened by this attack, as earlier we shared the story of Oleh, who drove the vehicle on the day of the attack, and whose commitment to helping others embodies the very spirit of humanitarian action.

Nonviolent Peaceforce stands in solidarity with all humanitarian workers who continue their life-saving missions despite the dangers. We also advocate for the provision of frequency analyzers and other protection under the Duty of Care obligations to help safeguard humanitarian teams and prevent such attacks in the future.
