Photo credit United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in South Sudan."Nonviolent Peaceforce recently facilitated a meeting between the women's peacekeeping team (WPT) from the Juba internally displaced persons (IDP) camp and UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Valerie Amos and Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to South Sudan, Toby Lanzer. The purpose of the meeting was to provide space for the women to share their stories and express their concerns to this high level delegation. The discussion gave light to some key issues in the camp that include lack of shelter, insufficient food and poor sanitation; overcrowding and high levels of disease which is leading to a spike in the death of children.

NP will continue to work together with the WPT to support them in taking a leadership role in peace and security issues within the camp. They are organizing themselves to advocate for improved service provision. They are also planning to work with other women and children in the camp to provide much needed psychosocial support and to establish nonviolent conflict resolution strategies."
